Pacific Coast Highway Road Trip Part 3

Continuing our Hearst Castle adventure....

After disembarking from the bus, our group was greeted by our guide who took us up about 88 (it felt like 200) stairs to the main entrance of Casa Grande (the main house).

We took the Grand Tour which was recommended for first-time visitors.  This tour consists of the main social rooms where the guests gathered during the castle's heyday -- the assembly room, the refectory, billiard room and theater.

The tour guide was really good. He was able to fully describe how it was to be a guest during Hearst' time.  He also gave detailed stories about the different arts and antiques in each room. It is a magnificent place still but it must have been a real sight to behold before.  I can just imagine what it felt like for the guests who were invited to stay in this place.  Sosyal!

After the tour, we were allowed to stroll around on our own through the gardens and the pools.

 One of the cottages

Can you see the Pacific Ocean from here?

The Neptune Pool. One of the coolest pools I've seen, ever!

Employees and their families are allowed to swim here once a year.

 The Roman Pool

Its kinda scary looking though. I wouldn't want to swim here.
Gave me the creeps!

Back at the Visitor Center, we didn't catch the 40-minute movie included in our tickets about how Hearst built the castle.  The day was almost over and most of the shops are closing down too.  So just browsed around the last gift shop and Macu got fixated on the stuffed monkeys. It was so cute, he kept on coming back to the display and poked and hugged and kissed the hanging monkeys!
